Elsie Marie Hammond, 98, Will Be Dearly Missed
Elsie Marie Hammond, (nee Dumke) age 98 of Dublin, Ohio, and formerly of Lorain, passed away under the care of Echo Hospice of Ohio at the Dublin Post Acute Care Center in Dublin, Ohio during the early morning hours of Tuesday June 10, 2025.
Elsie was born in Wellington, Ohio and spent the majority of her life residing in Lorain County. She was a graduate of Wellington High School.
She had been employed as the office manager for the family medical practice of Dr. Deo M. Abela, M.D. in Lorain from 1968 until the time of her retirement in 1992. She then worked part time in the same capacity from 1994 to 2009 for the medical practice of Dr. Pedro Anloague, M.D.
Elsie had formerly attended the West Side Baptist Church in Lorain.
Her favorite pastimes included shopping with her daughter and granddaughter as well as going to the Lyn-Way Restaurant for lunch with her sisters.
She is survived by her daughter Nancy A. Demyan (Timothy) residing in South Jordan, Utah, granddaughter Cara G. Flavin (Conor) living in Murray, Utah, and great grandson Callum T. Flavin also of Murray, Utah. She also leaves her brother Eric Dumke (wife Clarice “Tiny” Dumke, deceased) of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Else was preceded in death by her husband E.C. “Pete” Hammond in 1994, her father Erich A. Dumke in 1970, her mother Louise M. Dumke (nee Schmidt) in 1989 and siblings Betty Jane Dumke, Thelma Neilson (Paul), Eleanore Repp (Sanford),, Arthur “Bud” Dumke (Estella “Jill”), Elizabeth Gemmel (George), Edna Hill (Damon), Delores Manning (Mark), and Elaine Hovanitz (George).
Visitation will take place Tuesday June 24th from 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11:00 a.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway, Lorain. Pastor Tony Mannon representing Grace Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township.
