Robert A. Drop, 81, Ohio National Guard Veteran

Photo of Robert A.  Drop Robert A. Drop, age 81, of Lorain, passed away peacefully at the Stein Hospice Center in Sandusky on the evening of Monday June 9, 2025.

Born in Lorain on December 21, 1943, he was a graduate of Lorain High School and went on to obtain his Associates of Arts Degree in Accounting from Lorain County Community College.

Bob was employed for more than three decades as an expeditor for the U.S. Steel Corporation and its successor, USS/Kobe.

He was a veteran of the Ohio National Guard where he served for a period of six years; he fulfilled duty assignments as a Corporal and Assistant Squad Leader attached to Company D of the 112th Engineer’s Battalion.

Bob’s faith was an important element in his life; he was a longtime parishioner of the former Holy Trinity Church in Lorain and had most recently been attending Nativity B.V.M. Catholic Church

He is survived by daughter Christine Smith (George) and son Brian Drop (Jennifer), grandchildren Valerie Facemire (Mark Robison), Kylie Facemire, Abigail Smith, Katelyn Drop and Jason Drop, and great grandchildren Myles, Samuel, & Sadie Randolph and Rowan & Mark Robison, IV. He also leaves behind sisters Betty Jane Boone and Georgine Burkart (Bill), and brother George Drop, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years Judith (nee Goldyn) Drop in February of this year, along with his parents Andrew S. and Helen S. Drop (nee Luca), and twin sisters Mary Ann and Martha Jean Drop in infancy.

Visitation will be Friday June 13th from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway, Lorain. Funeral services will be Saturday beginning with closing prayers offered in the funeral chapel at 9:00 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 9:30 in Nativity BVM Catholic Church – 1454 Lexington Avenue, Lorain. Reverend Craig M. Hovanec, Pastor of the parish will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
