Philip D. Hladik Jr., 79, U.S. Air Force Veteran

Photo of Philip D. Hladik Jr. Philip D. Hladik Jr, 79, of Lorain, died Thursday April 24, 2025 at the Louis Stokes Veterans Administration Medical Center in Cleveland after a brief illness.

He was born August 15, 1945 in Lorain to Philip & Anna Hladik (nee Novak) and had been a lifelong Lorain resident.

Phil graduated from Admiral King High School and enlisted in the US Air Force serving from 1963-1967. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.

Phil worked as a Boilermaker for over 30 years at US Steel in Lorain before retiring.

He was a devoted father and enjoyed spending time with his granddaughters. He was a member of the Croatian Club where he shared countless good times with his buddies. He enjoyed watching the Cleveland Indians, playing golf, and league bowling at Rebman Recreation.

He is survived by his daughter Melissa Greller; granddaughters: Kylie, Lilyanne and Reese Greller; sister Patricia Zapolski and brother Robert Hladik (Angela). He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law Kenneth Zapolski.

The family will receive friends Wednesday April 30, 2025 from 4:00-7:00 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain. Funeral services will be held Thursday May 1, 2025 at 11:00 am in the funeral chapel. The Rev Chet Beetler, pastor of Christ Church in Elyria, will preside. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where AMVETS Post #32 will conduct military honors.
