Photo of Richard Strickler Richard (Dick) Strickler, age 88 of Lorain passed away with dignity on January 20, 2025.

He was born August 28, 1936. He was a graduate of Lorain High School c Class 1954 (B). After graduating he attended the General Motors Institute of Technology (GMIT) in Flint, Michigan. After graduating there, he worked a few years at various positions at the Lorain Ford Plant. He then joined the Electricians Union I.B.E.W. Local 129 as an apprentice. He became a Journeyman and worked as an outside construction electrician until he retired. He was very active in the Union, sitting on the Executive Board, the Apprenticeship Board, and was the Assistant Business Agent when he retired.

Dick enjoyed time with his family. He loved to travel around the U.S. He loved sports, and loved attending high school football and basketball games when family and friends' kids were playing. Watching college and Pro games on TV was also a favorite, along with playing cards and cribbage. Ever the patriot, Dick loved all things American— baseball (he loved watching the Lake Erie Crushers play), the Fourth of July, and fireworks.

Dick had a passion for the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman who loved trolling for walleye, and was known to throw a line or two for some of that good Lake Erie perch! He also loved hunting; turkey, pheasant, deer, moose, and elk to name a few. Michigan and “deer camp” was his favorite destination for many, many years. At the end he said, “It wasn’t even about the hunt anymore; I just liked being out there taking it all in.”

Dick was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Patricia (Pat) (nee Corrao), his brother Thomas Strickler, his father Jerry C. Strickler, and his mother Lucille (Babe) Strickler (nee Norris).

He is survived by his daughter Cindy Strickler of Lakewood and his favorite granddaughter Leanne Strickler of Chicago.

Dick will always be remembered for the unwavering love he had for his family and closest friends, his wry smile, and the twinkle in his eye.

Visitation will be Saturday January 25th from 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11:00 a.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway, Lorain. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park.
