Bernice A. Piper, 74, Avid Cleveland Sports Fan

Photo of Bernice A. Piper Bernice A. “Sue” Piper (nee Pyles), age 74, of Lorain, passed away at Mercy New Life Hospice on the evening of Saturday November 16, 2024 following a brief illness.

Sue was born in Masontown, West Virginia on May 5, 1950 and had been a resident of Ohio since childhood.

She had been employed in the maintenance department of Gross International for more than two decades retiring in 2016.

In her free time Sue was an avid fan and loyal supporter of all three Cleveland professional sports teams. She also enjoyed spending time with family and friends, fishing, playing poker, and enjoying a good steak dinner with The Texas Roadhouse being one of her favorite places to dine.

She is survived by her children Kelli Norton of Lorain, James Piper (Joyce) of Lorain, and Tammy Tansey (Jack) of Berlin Heights. Additional survivors include her grandson Brandon Ochrin of Lorain, brother John Pyles (Janet) of Berlin Heights, sisters Joyce Pyles of Lorain, Christine Wooten of Avon Lake, and Pamela Hart (Larry) of Mansfield, as well as several additional grandchildren and a host of nieces, and nephews.

Sue was preceded in death by her father John Pyles, mother Nancy Pyles (nee McGinnis), and siblings Richard Pyles, Kevin Pyles, Betty Hennes, and Ruby Jean Pyles in infancy.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. until time of funeral services at 6:30 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway Lorain. Reverend John R. Jackson, Chaplain for Mercy New Life Hospice will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations in her memory to Mercy New Life Hospice – 3500 Kolbe Road, Lorain, OH 44053.
