Mary Rak, 92, Had a Passion for Helping Others

She was born in Lorain on January 5, 1932 and had been a resident of the city for the majority of her life; Mary was a 1949 graduate of Lorain High School.
She had been employed as an administrative aide at Southview High School where she also served as a monitor and switchboard operator.
Mary was a longtime parishioner of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. Following its closing in 2009, she joined the community at St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish.
The hallmark of Mary’s existence revolved around her mission to promote happiness coupled with her insatiable desire to help others. This mantra continued with her assisting fellow residents at Avon Oaks right up until her final days.
In her free time, she found enjoyment in the form of league bowling, casino junkets, and playing card with friends.
She is survived by sons Michael Rak (Beth) of Avon and John Rak of Euclid. She also leaves grandsons Mark and Eric along with great grandsons Ben and Jake. Mary was preceded in death by her husband Stanley Rak in 2009, parents George and Helen (nee Luckach) Merva, daughter-in-law Kathy Rak (nee Kholberg), sister Helen Stout, and brothers George, John, Joseph, Mike, Andrew and Nicholas Merva.
Private family services and interment will take place under the direction of the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel at Calvary Cemetery.
