Photo of Sandra Stamatis Sandra Stamatis (nee Radovich), age 86, a long-time resident of Lorain County, passed away peacefully at Ames Family Hospice on the morning of Friday October 4, 2024.

Born in Youngstown, Ohio, Sandy was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School there.

She moved to Lorain shortly after her marriage to Gust A. Stamatis in 1960. The couple re-located to Amherst in 1970 where she spent the next forty-one years. In 2011 she moved to Whitehouse, Ohio.

Sandy had been employed as the administrative coordinator at the former Curtis-Schueffler Funeral Home in Elyria for a number of years.

She was very proud of her Serbian heritage and had been an active member of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in Lorain; she sang with the church choir and was a member, former Treasurer, and Past President of the church Kolo.

When not involved with the church, Sandy was highly gifted in the art of crochet and was known for her benevolence in sharing the items she crafted with relatives, friends, and acquaintences. She enjoyed spending time in the kitchen, as well, where her recipes for stuffed cabbage, porcupine balls, macaroni and cheese, and epic chocolate-cherry sheet cake were among her family’s favorites. Additional interests included solving crossword puzzles, reading Agatha Christie thriller novels, and watching television westerns, especially those on Grit TV.

In light of all of her activities, Sandy’s greatest enjoyment came from being a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother to those she loved the most.

She is survived by her son Gust D. Stamatis of Parma and daughter Nadine Tasler of Whitehouse. She also leaves granddaughters Rachel Roberson (Aaron) of Charlotte, North Carolina and Samantha Symons (Rosalyn) of Ypsilanti, Michigan.

Sandy was preceded in death by her husband of forty-two years, Gust A. Stamatis in 2002, son-in-law Timothy Tasler in 2019, father Michael Radovich, and mother Catherine Radovich (nee Gappen).
