Lawrence R. Sidlovsky, 89, U.S. Army Veteran
Lawrence R. Sidlovsky, age 89, of Elyria, and formerly of Lorain, passed away peacefully at O’Neill Healthcare North Ridgeville on the afternoon of Friday September 20, 2024.Born in Scottdale, Pennsylvania (Westmoreland County) on August 5, 1935, he was a 1953 graduate of East Huntingdon High School.
Mr. Sidlovsky joined the National Tube Company in his native Pennsylvania in 1953; he served there as a maintenance welder for two years prior to transferring to the company’s Lorain Product Facility in 1955. A member of United Steelworker’s Local 1104, he worked for the steelmaker for a total of thirty-five years prior to his official retirement in 1988. During his entire career, he maintained a record of one hundred percent attendance never missing a day of work to illness.
He was a veteran of the United States Army where he fulfilled duty assignments as a Private First Class attached to Battery D of the 2nd Artillery Command based at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas.
Mr. Sidlovsky was a long-time parishioner of St. Mary Catholic Church in Lorain. During his free time he enjoyed organic gardening and found relaxation in tending to his 1.5 acre garden at his Elyria Township friend’s home. When not involved with gardening, he enjoyed league bowling and also looked forward to annual golf trips with his circle of close U.S. Steel friends.
In addition, he enjoyed cooking and was never bashful about putting on an apron in the kitchen at the American Slovak Club to assist with kitchen duties during club events and union functions.
He is survived by children John R. Sidlovsky (Susan) of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Michelle A. Amato (Vincent M.) of Elyria, Steven G. Sidlovsky a 3rd Order Franciscan, and Leonard J. Sidlovsky of North Ridgeville. Additional survivors included eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and sister Dorothy Morgan (Dennis) of Lorain.
Mr. Sidlovsky was preceded in death by his wife Arlene (nee Yaremko), parents John and Clara (nee Honeychuck) Sidlovsky, great granddaughter Kayla Wullenweber, and siblings Clara Snyder, Mary-Ann Rafacz, George Sidlovsky, Theresa Sidlovsky, Thomas Sidlovsky, and Bernadette Sidlovsky.
Lawrence’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff and caregivers at O’Neill Healthcare North Ridgeville for the excellent care and compassion that they provided during his two year residency there.
Visitation will be observed on Tuesday September 24th from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Wednesday September 25th beginning with closing prayers and final viewing at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. in St. Peter Catholic Church 35777 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville. Reverend Robert J. Franco, Pastor of the parish will serve as celebrant. At the conclusion of Mass, military honors will be conducted by Amvets Post # 32 of Elyria. Following those rites, attendees are invited to join the family for a catered luncheon and extended fellowship in the church’s social hall.
