Anthony S. Marusin, 86, Avid Cleveland Browns Fan
Anthony S. Marusin, age 86, passed away peacefully at Avon Oaks Nursing Home on the morning of Saturday August 10, 2024 following a period of declining health.He was born in Lorain on June 12, 1938 and had been a resident of the city for the majority of his life.
Tony was a 1956 graduate of Lorain St. Mary High School; shortly after his commencement he joined the Ohio Edison Company and embarked on a career as a lineman with the utility that spanned four decades; he retired in 1996. He later secured a position at Sam’s Club in Sheffield Village where he worked an additional ten years as a stockman and maintenance provider.
A former member of St. Peter Parish in Lorain, Tony was an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns and a devotee of all genres of music.
Survivors include his son James Marusin (Cindy), and daughters Beverly Alaksa (Richard), Diane Cline, and Elaine Georgas (Andrew deceased), step-son Dalbert B. Gurnack (Julie), and step-daughters Kathryn Marcucci (Curtis deceased), Denise Gurnack, and Danielle Miles. He also leaves thirteen grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren. Additional survivors include his sister-in-law Mary Lou Marusin, former wife Lottie Gurnack, nieces Arlene Krzak-Justick and Karon Mathews, and nephew Norb Krzak, Jr.
Tony was preceded in death by his wife Sylvia (nee Kocan) , father Stephen Marusin, mother Elizabeth Marusin (nee Liptik) , sister Mary Krzak, brother Joseph Marusin, and nephew Mark Marusin
Tony’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff and caregivers of Mercy New Life Hospice, Avon Oaks Caring Community, and Amherst Manor Nursing Home for their kindness and compassion throughout his care.
Friends may call in Nativity BVM Catholic Church 333 South Lake Street, South Amherst on Monday August 19th from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Reverend Timothy J. O’Connor, Pastor of the parish will officiate. Entombment will follow in the Resurrection Mausoleum at Calvary Cemetery.
The family encourages contributions in Tony’s memory to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel.
