Mary M. Boycik, 100, Accomplished Seamstress
Mary M. Boycik (nee Urbanic), age 100, of Lorain, passed away peacefully at her residence on the morning of Thursday August 8, 2024.Born in Middletown, Ohio on March 3, 1924, her family moved to Lorain in 1925 where she grew up with her six brothers and one sister.
Mary was a 1942-B graduate of Lorain High School. Following her commencement, she worked for A & P Grocery as well as General Industries before joining the National Tube Company where she was employed as a production assistant. In 1949 she married Henry J. Boycik and embarked on her new career path as a full time wife and mother.
Mary was a parishioner of the former Holy Trinity Church in Lorain where she was a member of the Rosary Society. In addition, she served on the Board of Directors of the American Slovak Club for many years. She was also a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary at VFW Post # 1079.
Well known as an accomplished seamstress, Mary enjoyed working at the weekly fish fry at the American Slovak Club, as well as boating, fishing, and swimming in her free time. Additional interests included testing her luck on junkets to local casinos as well as playing the lotto.
She is survived by her sons Donald (Denise deceased) of Vermilion, and Dennis (Michele) of Lorain, along with her daughter Deborah L. Boycik also of Lorain. Additional survivors include five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Henry J. Boycik, Sr., son Henry J. Boycik, Jr. father Lucas Urbanic mother Elizabeth Urbanic (nee Grancic), brothers Matthew, Charles, William, Alex, John, and Frank, and sister Elizabeth Boycik.
Visitation will take place in St. Peter Parish 3501 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain on Wednesday August 21, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mary’s Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Reverend Craig M. Hovanec, Pastor of the parish will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
