Lilah A. Groene, 74, Avid Gardener

Lilah was born in Cleveland on June 24, 1948 and had been a resident of Lakeside Marblehead since 2007.
She was a graduate of West High School in Cleveland and went on to take courses at Cleveland State University. Later in her life she received her Associate’s Degree in Applied Chemistry from Lorain County Community College and then her Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Chemistry from Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea.
Lilah had been employed as a Developmental Chemist in the refinishing division for the Nippon Paint Company; she had previously been employed in a similar capacity at PPG Industries. Lilah dedicated many hours of her free time to civic organizations and was a key volunteer in the annual Lions Club Perch Festival in Marblehead. In addition, she was active with the auxiliaries of Veterans of Foreign Posts # 7035 in Avon, 8686 in Sheffield Lake, and 7572 in Lakeside Marblehead.
She was an avid gardener, lover of flowers, and took great pride in maintaining her yard. Lilah was also an aficionado of wine, a boating enthusiast, and always enjoyed her and her husband’s annual winter trips to Florida. Undeniably, her favorite thing in life was the time she spent with her grandchildren. Survivors include her husband of forty-two years, David, son Richard Webb (Rene) of Sheffield Lake, and step-children David Groene (Rosa) of Monroe, Georgia, Dennis Groene (Amanda) of Elyria, and Debbie Edwards (Craig) of Buford, Georgia. Lilah also leaves twelve grandchildren and one great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents Jerry and Mildred (nee Sankus) Byrd.
Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral chapel. Reverend Craig M. Hovanec, Pastor of St. Peter Parish in Lorain will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
