Kenneth Velez, 48, State Trooper for Ohio State Highway Patrol

Photo of Kenneth  Velez Kenneth “Kenny V.” Velez, 48 of Lorain, passed away from injuries sustained in an accident on Thursday, September 15, 2016 in the line of duty.

He was born on August 23, 1968 in Lorain, to Benjamin and Ana (née Ocasio) Velez of Lorain.

Also surviving are sons Devin Alexander Velez of South Korea, Christian Lorenzo Velez, Lorain and daughter Andria Elise Velez, Lorain; brothers David (Diane) Velez of Avon Lake, Benjamin Velez Jr. of Lorain, and sister Ivette Carrion of Lorain; nieces Jacqueline Rodriguez and Amanda Velez; nephews David Velez Jr. and Brendin Rios: great nephews Elijah Rodriguez and Jayden Miller; great niece Mia Velez.

An avid sports fan, Kenny enjoyed volunteer coaching for his sons’ baseball teams and cheering on the Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Cleveland Indians. He was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain.

Kenny has been with the Ohio State Highway Patrol since 1988 and graduated November 11, 1989 from the Ohio State Highway Patrol Academy. Kenny began working as a State Trooper in 1989 at the Canfield patrol post. He then transferred to the Elyria patrol post, where he spent the majority of his career. Kenny spent the end of his career at the Seville patrol post, then moved to the Cleveland patrol post.

The family of Kenneth Velez sincerely appreciates all the love and support of the community and the Ohio State Highway Patrol family. He is loved and will be missed by all who knew him.

His family will receive friends Wednesday, September 21 from 3 to 8 PM in Ewing Activity Center at Lorain County Community College, 1005 North Abbe Rd, Elyria. His funeral service will be there at 10 AM Thursday. Rev. Father. William A. Thaden, Pastor of Sacred Heart Chapel will officiate. Burial with honors will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.

In lieu of flowers his family suggests memorial contributions to the Kenneth Velez Memorial Fund at any Chase Bank.
