Mary "Red" Nahm, 92, Loved Ballroom Dancing

She was born in Wilpen, Pennsylvania to the late Mike and Mary Mrosko (nee Shirilla). In 1928, her family moved to Lorain. Mary graduated from Lorain High School in the 1942 B class and went to the St. Joseph School of Practical Nursing where she was Class President. She worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at St. Joseph Hospital for 20 years, then worked for Dr. Vasil Bogoevski for 13 years and later worked at Mercy Regional Medical Center until she retired in 2000. She worked 51 years in the nursing profession. After retiring, she worked about 10 years taking care of Mary Himes until she passed away. The two became great friends when Mary Himes was a patient in the hospital
Mary was a lifelong member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Rite Catholic Church where she was active in the Ladies Guild making pierogi and nut and poppy seed rolls and helping with catering and bingo. She was in charge of craft shows and card parties and was a member of Lodge #77 where she bowled in the church league.
Mary’s great love was ballroom dancing and traveling to all parts of the United States, Canada, Caribbean Islands, Hawaii and Alaska. She also traveled to Potrac, Czechoslovakia (Slovakia) where she saw the houses that her parents lived in and met some of her cousins, aunts and uncles.
Mary also enjoyed sewing and making most of her own clothes as well as clothes for her mother and grandchildren. She loved working around the house and in her flower garden. When her children were young, Mary served as a den mother and Girl Scout leader.
She is survived by her children: Bob (Sandy) Nahm, Bill (Lisa) Nahm and Janice Pachniuk; 8 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren and brothers Joe (MaryAnn) Mrosko and Mike (JoAnne) Mrosko. She also leaves behind her dear friend Mary Stanko. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Nahm, parents Mike and Mary Mrosko (nee Shirilla) and sister Ann Fullmer.
Mary also wanted to thank her two sons and their wives for the good care they have given her.
The family will receive friends Sunday September 11th from 4-8 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain where the Parastas Service will be held Sunday at 7:00 pm. Panachida services will be held Monday September 12th at 10:30 am in the funeral chapel followed by the Divine Liturgy at 11:00 am at St. Nicholas Byzantine Rite Catholic Church, 2711 W. 40th St, Lorain. The Rev. Fr. Nicholas Rachford, pastor, will preside. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township.
