Betty Jean Strnad, 79, Devoted to Her Children and Grandchildren

Photo of Betty Jean Strnad Betty Jean Strnad (nee Stump), 79, a beloved and devoted wife and mother passed away in the presence, thoughts and prayers of her loving family on September 6, 2016 at Avon Oaks Nursing home in Avon, OH.

She was born in Gassaway, WV on February 28, 1937 to Minor and Viola Francis Allen Stump. She moved to Lorain, OH after high school looking for work. While working at a market in Lorain, Betty met the love of her life Edward F. Strnad and on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 1962, Edward and Betty were joined in the Holy Sacrament of Marriage at St. John’s Church at 1897 East 30th Street, Lorain, Ohio.

After setting up a home in Lorain, Edward and Betty raised two children, Kevin and Tamara, who were Betty’s heart. Betty was devoted to her children and grandchildren and had a wonderful impact on all those who knew her. She worked at ARA as the Director of Food Service at the Avon Lake Ford Plant for many years and retired from food service management at Elyria United Methodist Village. Betty also worked many years as a realtor.

Betty had an amazing enthusiasm in serving God and her church community, from being active in St. Mary Women’s Guild to volunteering with her husband at St. Mary Choice Food Pantry. Being raised on a farm, Betty gained so many talents that she shared throughout her life from gardening, cooking, and baking to sewing and embroidery work. Betty lived her life to the fullest and was known for her feisty, yet good sense of humor and will be missed by all who knew her.

Betty is preceded in death by the love of her life Edward Frank Joseph Strnad. They spent 50 beautiful years of married life together before his passing on December 5, 2012.

She was also preceded in death by her father Minor Stump and mother Viola Francis Allen Stump; brothers Delford Stump, Ernest Stump and his wife Glenna, brother Wetzel Stump and wife Shirley; sisters Nellie Rollyson (nee Stump) and her husband Arlie “Bud” Rollyson, Virginia Miller (nee Stump) and her husband Carl Miller, Grace Stump, Merle Carr, and Flora Reed.

Betty’s legacy will live through her son Kevin (Karen) Strnad of LaGrange, Kentucky, daughter Tamara Strnad-Rudolph (Robert) of Amherst, grandchildren Jennifer, Jessica, Heather, Brett and Lillian and 2 great grandchildren.

Betty was also loved by her Avon Oaks Nursing Home staff and families and Mercy Hospice.

We are truly blessed to have shared a faith-filled, loving and adventurous life with our beautiful mother. Thank you for all the kindness, prayers and compassion during this difficult time.

The family will receive friends Sunday September 11th from 4-8pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held Monday September 12th at 9:30 am in the funeral chapel followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10am at St Mary Catholic Church, 310 8th St, Lorain. The Rev. Daniel O. Divis, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
