Anne Molnar, 90, Proud of Croatian Heritage

Anne was born May 30, 1926 In McKeesport, Pennsylvania and had resided in Lorain for over 70 years.
She graduated from St. Joseph Academy in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and the Morton’s School of Nursing in Pennsylvania. She worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse for 44 years at Amherst Hospital before retiring.
Anne served four terms on Lorain City Council as Ward 6 council person from 1998-2005 and three terms as council at large from 2008-2013. She focused on taking care of the elderly people of Lorain as well as children. She volunteered as a Guardian Ad-Litem for children and the Voices for Children program where she would speak on behalf of the child in court. She was a member of the RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) and the Lorain Citizens League. For 10 years, she served on the Lorain Mayor’s Citizens Participation Committee; served with NOACA (Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency) for two years; served for the People’s Coalition for Better Housing; was treasurer for several Lorain School levies; served as a delegate at the 1992 National Democratic Convention for Bill Clinton and was profiled at the National Convention where she was one of 22 people selected from the 50 states.
Anne was very proud of her Croatian heritage and continued to speak, read and write in the Croatian language.
She was a past member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elyria Township and a current member of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church in Lorain.
She is survived by her children: Michael Molnar (wife Kristine) of Huron, Joseph Molnar of Amherst, Robert Molnar (wife Marie) of Cookeville, Tennessee and Lisa Molnar Butler of Seattle, Washington; 9 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; brother Petar Bokulic of Florida, sister Mary Borrelli of Florida and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years Joseph Molnar, her parents and 4 siblings.
The family will receive friends Wednesday August 17th from 4-8 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. Funeral services will be held Thursday August 18th at 9:30 am in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church, 2143 Homewood Dr, Lorain. The Rev. John Retar, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
