Bernard D. Pawlowski, 91, U.S. Navy Veteran

Ben was born November 28, 1924 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and had resided in Vermilion for the past 7 years moving from Sheffield Lake.
He served with the US Navy during World War II as a Machinist Mate 2nd Class aboard the USS Nicholson. He was awarded the European-African Medal with 3 Stars, Asiatic-Pacific Medal with 6 Stars, Philippine Liberation Medal and World War II Victory Medal.
Ben worked at LTV Steel in Cleveland as a Foreman retiring in 1983.
He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Ben raised and trained homing pigeons for races or to be used at weddings during bird releases. He enjoyed vacationing with family at his cottage at Pymatuning Lake in Pennsylvania. His favorite saying was "Let a Smile be Your Umbrella".
He is survived by his wife of 66 years Margaret Pawlowski (neeBaxendell); sons: Donald J. Pawlowski (Sandy) of Reading, Pennsylvania, Steve Pawlowski (Nancy) of Amherst, Ed Pawlowski of Clarksville and Alan Pawlowski of Vermilion; grandchildren: Jennifer Massie (Chris), Tony Pawlowski, Colin Pawlowski and Lauren Pawlowski; great grandchildren: Jaden Massie, Sophia Massie and Kaylee Pawlowski. He was preceded in death by his parents and 10 siblings.
A private family cremation service will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain.
