Marilyn A. Tomasic, 65, Enjoyed Spending Time with Family and Friends

Photo of Marilyn A. Tomasic Marilyn A. Tomasic, age 65, of Long Beach, CA, died Thursday July 28, 2016 after courageously battling pancreatic cancer for a year.

She was born June 8, 1951 in Lorain, OH and had been a resident of Lorain for most of her early life. She was a 1969 graduate of Lorain St. Mary’s High School. She continued her education attending Bowling Green University graduating with a Bachelor in Special Education. pursued her Master’s in Educational Psychology with highest honors at California State University and further studied in obtaining her PHD in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology.

Marilyn started her career with a teaching position initially in Indian Hill, OH - (Cincinnati) and then relocated to Long Beach, CA in 1976 to begin working as a School Psychologist in the Division of Special Education of the Los Angeles County Office of Education and held this position with various levels of responsibility until her retirement in 2013.

She continued to maintain her license for the State of California as an Educational Psychologist and National Certification for School Psychology through her career and after her retirement. She was also an active member in the California Association of School Psychologists, The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi and the CSULB Alumni Association.

She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling, going to the beach, watching classic old movies, participating and attending community events and shopping at antique and craft fairs.

She was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church while growing up and living in Lorain, OH and then St. Barnabas in Long Beach, CA.

Survivors include her two brothers Michael B. Tomasic of Ashland, OH and Martin J. Tomasic of Cincinnati, sister In-Law: Jean M. Tomasic: niece Rachel and nephew Scott both of Cincinnati, OH. She was preceded in death by her mother Ann Tomasic (nee Zehel) in 1998 and father Martin A. Tomasic in 2003.

Though she spent most of her adult life living in Long Beach, CA her last wish was to be brought back home to Lorain, OH for burial next to her mother and father. The family will receive friends Saturday August 20th from 9:00 am until the time of funeral services at 10:00 am at Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. The Rev. Daniel Divis, pastor of St. Mary Catholic Church in Lorain, will preside. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
