Eugene F. Sadowski, 85, U.S. Marine Veteran

Photo of Eugene F. Sadowski Eugene F. Sadowski, age 85, of Amherst Township, passed away on the evening of Monday July 4, 2016 while a patient at the Specialty Hospital of Lorain.

He was born in Lorain on November 13, 1930 and was a 1948 graduate of Lorain High School. Gene had been a resident of Amherst Township for the past fifty-six years.

He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps where he fulfilled duty assignments as a Corporal attached to Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 6th Marines, 2nd Division. Gene was the recipient of the National Defense Service Ribbon.

He had been employed as a foreman in the #2 LAP and #3 Seamless Mills of U.S. Steel Corporation’s Lorain-Cuyahoga Works for thirty-five years; he retired from the steel producer in 1983.

A parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst, Gene enjoyed golf in his free time. His favorite pastime, however, was spending time with his family and, especially, his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of sixty years Rosemary (nee Breznai), along with sons Michael (Brenda) and Paul (Deborah) both of Amherst Township, and John (Elizabeth) of Elyria. He also leaves five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents Florian and Katherine (nee Blazejowski) Sadowski, by brothers Milton and Alphonse, and by sisters Bernice Bach, Adeline Prowsoski, Eleanor Saltis, and Jeannette Bereznak.

Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Friday beginning at 10:15 a.m. in the funeral chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church – 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst. Reverend Timothy O’Connor, pastor of the parish will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.

The family encourages memorial contributions to the National Parkinson’s Disease Foundation.
