Ruth E. Kalo, 80, Enjoyed Being Around Her Family

Photo of Ruth E. Kalo Ruth E. Kalo (née Eddy), 80, of Lorain, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on Wednesday, May 18, 2016.

She was born in Elyria on January 13, 1936. After graduating from Elyria High School in 1954, she married Ernie Kalo. She later attended St. Joseph School of Nursing, receiving her Licensed Practical Nursing Degree in 1971.

Ruth worked in the ICU at St. Joseph’s Hospital before joining the Lorain County Blood Bank as a phlebotomist and trainer, until retiring in 1999.

She was a member of The Hungarian Reformed Church of Lorain, was on the church’s Consistory, and served as English Chairman in 2008. She was active in the Busy Martha Guild, Chancel Choir, and helped out in the kitchen. Ruth also had been a Pythian Sister. She enjoyed reading, movies, and crocheting; but mostly being around her family.

Ruth is survived by son Ernie (Patty) Kalo of Lorain, daughter Derris (Floyd) Lents of Sheffield Village, grandchildren Brandon Kalo, Natalie Velazquez, Katie Daum, and Sonya Wooten, 5 great-grandchildren, brother Robert Eddy (Emma), sisters-in-law Vivian Kalo, Irene Retay and Theresa Makay, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Ernie, son Lewis Kalo, grandson Jason Kalo, parents William & Dora Eddy (née Bradshaw), brothers William, Eugene, George, & Ted; and sisters Dora, Florence & Roberta.

Friends will be received on Sunday, May 22 from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 E 31st Street, South Lorain, with a prayer service being held at 5:00 p.m. Sunday evening. Her funeral service will be Monday at 10 a.m. at the Hungarian Reformed Church, 1691 E. 31st, Lorain. The Rev. Peter Toth will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Cemetery, Amherst Township.
