Nellie F. Ferrell, 89, Enjoyed Recreational Flying

Photo of Nellie F. Ferrell Nellie F. Ferrell, (nee Nichols), age 89, of Lorain, passed away at her residence on the evening of Wednesday April 13th 2016.

She was born in Fairmont, West Virginia on December 31, 1926 and was a graduate of Fairmont Senior High School. Nellie had been a resident of Lorain since 1953.

Mrs. Ferrell had been employed by the Lorain City School System for twenty years working primarily at Homewood Elementary.

She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont and had most recently attended First United Methodist Church in Elyria. Nellie had formerly served as a member and past president of the P.T.A. at Homewood Elementary, Whittier Junior High, and Southview High Schools. She was also a long-time member of Day Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.

In her free time Mrs. Ferrell enjoyed recreational flying with her husband and held the distinction of flying with him nearly every day for a number of years. In addition Nellie and her husband formed many lasting friendships through a variety of clubs of which they were members.

She is survived by her husband of sixty-four years Ray, by daughters Deborah K. Harris (Randy) of Fairmont, Terri L. Brown (Richard) of Akron, Michele L. Spiroff of Avon, and Sandra Jo Penman (William) of Sugarland, Texas. She also leaves sons Richard N. Ferrell (Bonnie) of Flowery Branch, Georgia, and Michael R. Ferrell of Elyria, along with nineteen grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.

Nellie was preceded in death by her parents Nelson and Edna (nee Paige) Nichols, son-in-law George Spiroff, brothers Marvin, Howard, Thomas, and Herschel, sister Willa Nichols, and niece Harriet Lorraine Adkins.

Visitation will be Friday from 4 until 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral chapel. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp.
