Mary J. Ondeka, 84, Enjoyed Crocheting and Bingo

Photo of Mary J. Ondeka Mary J. Ondeka (nee Olsavsky), age 84, of Lorain, passed away on the afternoon of Thursday March 31, 2016 at Amherst Manor Nursing Home.

She was born in Lorain on September 12, 1931 and remained a life-long resident of the city; Mary was a graduate of Lorain High School.

Mrs. Ondeka was a long-time parishioner of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lorain where she was a member of the Mother’s Club as well as the Rosary Society. She was also a member and former treasurer of St. Ann’s Lodge Branch 114 of the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association.
Mary was currently attending St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst.

She was also a member of the American Slovak Club and had previously volunteered her time for the club’s weekly fish fries. Mary’s hobbies included crocheting and bingo.

She is survived by sons James (Judy), Thomas, and John (Brenda) all of Lorain along with daughters JoAnne (Jerry) Norris and Jacqueline Agustinelli both of Elyria, and Frances (Chris) Ohle of Amherst. In addition, she leaves eleven grandchildren six great grandchildren, and her sister Evelyn (Bernie) Weber residing in Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her husband Paul T. Ondeka, Sr. in 1988, son Paul T. Ondeka, Jr. in 1968, grandson Carson Ondeka-Driver, parents John and Anna (nee Ambrisko) Olsavsky, brother John, and sister Margaret Higgins.

Visitation will be Monday from 6:00 until 8:30 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral chapel with Deacon Donald M. Jankowski presiding. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
