Yolanda Fernandez, 64, Will be Dearly Missed

Photo of Yolanda Fernandez Yolanda “Yo” Fernandez, 64 of Lorain passed away Friday, March 4, 2016 in Lake Pointe Health Center, Lorain following a long battle with Lymphoma.

She was born December 30, 1951 in Chicago, IL. Yolanda received her Bachelor’s degree from Loyola University in Chicago in 1974 and her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Utah in 1977. She practiced Law in San Francisco and the bay area from 1979 until coming to Lorain. She had a private practice in Lorain from 1992 until 1999. Yolanda then worked as a Program Coordinator for Lorain County Volunteer Action Center and the Lorain County Commissioners office until suffering a stroke in 2007.

Yolanda volunteered her time serving as director of El Centro de Servcios Sociales, Lorain from 2003 to 2004. Vice President of the Coalition for Hispanic/ Latino Issues and Progress. Board member of Lorain County Office of Aging, United Way of Greater Lorain County, the U. A. W. Hispanic Leadership Conference and member and legal counsel of Lorain Puerto Rican Home. Yolanda was generous, offering legal advice and handling many cases for free.

Yolanda is survived by her father Esteban Fernandez of Chicago; her sister Joanne Fernandez of Chicago; 3 nieces and companion and caregiver of 19 years Fred Lozano of Lorain.

She was preceded in death by her mother Anna Marie (née Tayerle) Fernandez.

Her funeral was private.

Because Yo was fond of animals, memorial contributions may be made to any animal rescue group or any of the fore mentioned organizations.
