Demetria Christo, 86, Will be Dearly Missed

Photo of Demetria Christo Demetria Christo (née Elia), 86, of Elyria, died peacefully in her sleep Wednesday, January 13, 2016. She resided comfortably at the Kingston of Vermilion for the last 15� years.

She was born July 23, 1929 in Koma Tou Yialou, Cyprus. Since moving to Elyria in the mid 1950’s Demetria and her husband Basil were the proprietors of several local restaurants, including the D & N Restaurant, The Coffee Cup, Casey’s and Basil’s Lounge all in Elyria. Demetria was a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church Lorain.

Survivors include her sons Steve (Kathleen) Christo of Gloucester, Virginia, Nick (Heidi) Christo of Westminster, Colorado, Chris and Jason Christo both of Elyria, and Dennis (Dena) Christo of Lorain; daughters Penelope (Peter) Zale of University Heights’ and Elena (Petros) Nicolaou of South Amherst; brothers John Elia of Bonita Springs, Florida , Tony Elia and Michael (Maroulla) Elia both of Cyprus; sisters Margarita Androu and Constandia Vakis both of Cyprus; sister in law Maro Elia of Jacksonville, Florida; grandchildren Demetria, Ivan, Ariana, Stephen, Alison, Areti, Charlotte, Giorgia, Demetria, Michael, Helena, Basil and Falon.

Demetria was preceded in death by her husband Basil Christo in 1997; parents Nick and Elena (née Yiasoumi) Elia and brothers Elias and Andy Elia.

Her family will receive friends Saturday, January 16 from 10:30 AM until time of her Funeral service at 11:30 AM at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 2000 Tower Blvd., Lorain. The Rev. Protopresbyter Father Michael C. Gulgas, will officiate. Burial will follow at North Murray Ridge Cemetery, Elyria Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, it was her wish that memorial contributions be made to St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 2000 Tower Blvd., Lorain, OH 44053.
