Elizabeth M. Szabo, 95, Fabulous Cook

Photo of Elizabeth M. Szabo Elizabeth M. “Betty” Szabo (nee Gargus), 95, of Lorain, died Thursday January 7, 2016 at Avon Oaks Assisted Living Center in Avon.

She was born September 6, 1920 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.

Betty graduated from Lorain High School. She worked as a cook at Vincent Elementary School for many years; as a cook at Gargus Hall and as a waitress at Hanko’s Gin Mill.

She was a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Lutheran Church in Sheffield Township. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, sewing, quilting, needle point and was a fabulous cook.

She is survived by her daughter Marcy (Steve) Anderson of Plainfield, Illinois; daughters-in-law Judy Szabo of Avon and Christine Szabo of Gibsonburg; grandchildren Janet Szabo, Beth Szabo, Aaron Szabo, Emily Anderson, Amy Szabo, Elizabeth Pebelske, Lucy Anderson, Craig Fager and Jeffrey Fager; great grandchildren Mariah Schuster, Ellen Schuster and Lilly Pebelske. She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years Steven Szabo, Sr; sons Steven Szabo, Jr and Jeffrey Szabo; daughter Ellen Fager; parents Steve & Susie Gargus (nee Bodnar); brothers Steven Gargus and John Gargus and sisters Lillian Engle and Helen Kozopas.

The family will receive friends Sunday 4:00 – 7:00 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 am in the funeral chapel. The Rev. Edgar Anthony, pastor of Ss Peter & Paul Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township.
