Doris Glavan, 87, Was presented the Crystal Apple Award for Volunteerism in the Amherst Schools

Doris was born in Lorain on September 13th, 1927. She was a 1945-A graduate of Lorain High School. Doris had been employed as an operator for the Lorain Telephone Company, and a billing clerk for Drs. Russell Berkbile and Associates. She ended her working career as a secretary for Attorney James S. Parobek.
Mrs. Glavan was a parishioner of St. Mary Church, as well as a member of the Women’s Guild there. She was a member and past Financial secretary of the Lakeland Women’s Club and had served as a volunteer for the Hospice of St. Joseph and at Community Health Partners Hospital. Doris was presented the Crystal Apple Award for Volunteerism in the Amherst Schools.
She is survived by her daughter Deb (John) Gelenius along with a son Calvin (Annette) residing in Bonita Springs, Florida. She also leaves grandchildren Kyle Gelenius, Kara (Carl) Rosso, step granddaughters Rose (Brock) Koon and Nikki (Chris) Bogner (Indiana) with 6 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty eight years Frank in 2006, by her son Franklin in 2007, by her father, Steve Shay in 1980, and mother Rose (nee Pakos) in 2007.
Friends may call today (Tuesday) from 4 until 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Additional visitation will take place in St. Mary Catholic Church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of her Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Reverend Daniel O. Divis, pastor of the parish will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
