Addison O. Mills III, 81, US Navy Veteran

Addison O. “Sonny” Mills, III, age 81, of Lorain, passed away on the afternoon Thursday of December 24, 2015 while a patient at University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland. Sonny was born in Cleveland on October 16, 1934 and was a graduate of West Tech High School. He had been a resident of Lorain for the past forty-four years.

Mr. Mills was a veteran of the United States Navy where he fulfilled duty assignments as a member of the Sea Bees.

He was employed as an organizer for Local # 880 of the United Food and Commercial Workers; he retired in 1989 following a career that spanned thirty four years with the trade union.

Sonny was an avid bowler and participated in the couple’s league hosted by Rebman’s Recreation. He also enjoyed golf, especially during stays at his winter residence in Bradenton, Florida.

He is survived by his wife of forty-two years Edna (nee McKinney), by sons Robert (Rose) Mills of Solon, Steven (Karen) Bolen of Amherst, and Joey (Dina) Mills of Trinity Florida. He also leaves daughters Bonnie Balawender of Surfside Beach, South Carolina, and Anita Fekete of Lorain. Additional survivors include eleven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, his brother Donald “Donny” (Linda) Dolence residing in Virginia, and sister Patricia Schaffer of Olmsted Falls.

Mr. Mills was preceded in death by his father Addison O. Mills, II, by his mother Evelyn Gray, by his sister Eleanor Fresch, and by his son-in-law Michael E. Fekete.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 until 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral chapel. Reverend Matthew Merriman will officiate.

The family encourages memorial contributions to either the Seidman Cancer Center or to the Lorain County Chapter of the A.S.P.C.A.
