Valerie M. Kos, 94, Enjoyed Dancing and Gardening
Valerie M. Kos, 94, of Lorain, died Tuesday December 15, 2015.She was born April 7, 1921 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.
Valerie retired from Hill’s Department Store in Lorain where she worked in the Women’s Department as a clerk and salesperson.
She was a member of St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church in Elyria Township and Catholic Golden Agers. For many years, Valerie volunteered at Harris School in Amherst with the reading program. Valerie performed in the Follies at the Lorain Palace Theater. She enjoyed dancing (line dancing and especially polkas) and gardening. Her love for her family and the commitment to keep all the generations connected was the guiding force that shaped her life and ours.
She is survived by her daughter Tina (Ken) Oster of Lorain and 3 grandchildren, Jennifer Bednar (Chris)
Joshua Miranda (Deanna) Megan Oster and 6 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Anton and Mary Kos (nee Rozman), sisters Mary Vanca and Ernestine Yuhas and brothers Steven Kos and Edward Kos.
The family will receive friends Sunday 3-5 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:00 am in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 41295 N Ridge Rd, Elyria Twp. The Rev. Donald Dunson, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
