Sally A. Bernes, 84, Loved Singing and Music

Mrs. Bernes was born on March 22, 1931 in Shaker Heights to the late Joseph and Eva and (nee Ginsburg) Lepon. The family then moved to Lorain with her parents and brother, Carl Lepon. For many years, her family owned and operated Lee Furniture on Broadway in Lorain.
She attended Irving School and graduated from Lorain High School in 1949. While in school, she belonged to the Musical Arts Society and was active in the Acapella Choir. She attended The Ohio State University and Oberlin Conservatory of Music.
She made her home in Hollywood and Pembroke Pines, Florida with her life partner, Eugene Schwartz. Several years ago, she owned and operated the South Florida Sailing Association. She enjoyed creating artwork, playing the piano and singing.
Sally will be greatly missed by her children Ellen (John Inlow) Shefi of Oregon City, OR, Larry (Diane) Freedman of Bradenton, FL, and LynnDee (Mike) Gillam of Elyria. She was very proud of her grandchildren Liora Shefi, Nicole Auvil, Joel Freedman and Alison Gillam. Sally also had 3 great granddaughters.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Howard Bernes in 1979 and her brother Carl Lepon in 2013.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, November 30, 2015 at 10:00 am in the Salem Cemetery with Rabbi Shalom Plotkin, officiating. Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street , Lorain is handling the arrangements.
