Glen O. Mikolanda, 71, Played Saxophone and Taught Piano

Photo of Glen O. Mikolanda Glen O. Mikolanda, 71, of Lorain, died Monday November 2, 2015 at University Hospital in Cleveland.

He was born May 25, 1944 in Lorain and had resided in Lorain most of his life. He also resided in North Olmsted for 25 years.

Glen attended Kent State University where he earned a Bachelor Degree in Education and Science and a Bachelor Degree in Music. He taught biology and science for Elyria City Schools for over 30 years before retiring.

Glen played the saxophone for various dance bands, including Mickey and the Clean Cuts in the 60s and more recently Just the Two of Us. He taught piano for many years and enjoyed attending Cleveland Orchestra concerts, spending time with his family, taking pictures at family events, fishing and playing golf. In addition, he had a passion for gardening, raising his fig trees, and especially favored red roses.

He is survived by his children James Mikolanda currently of Atlanta, Georgia; Tera Studebaker (Todd) of Massillon; grandchildren Angie, Lauren, Anabella, Justin and Lilly; wife Maria Mikolanda (nee Urso); and two nieces Lisa Crouch and Michelle Livermore. He was preceded in death by his parents Otto & Mary Mikolanda (nee Krosky) and sister Marcia Collins.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of funeral services at 11:00 am at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. The Rev. Jimmy Madsen, pastor of First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Lorain, will preside. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
