Diana Akers, 50, Enjoyed Traveling and Shopping

She was born September 8, 1965 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.

Diana was a graduate of the Southview High School Class of 1983. She attended Lorain County Community College, Kent State University and Tiffin University where she earned a Bachelor Degree in Human Resources.

Diana worked at Cleveland Corporate Services as the Human Resources Executive Director for 5 years. Prior to that, she had worked in Human Resources at both Norwalk Furniture for 7 years and at Equity Trust in Elyria.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel in Lorain. She enjoyed traveling, shopping and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her husband of 26 years Michael Akers, daughters Olivia Akers-Thompson (Adam) and Emily Akers, parents Jose & Carmen Mendez and siblings Jose Mendez, Jr, Eddie Mendez, Migdalia White and William Mendez, all of Lorain. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Ramon & Margarita Faria and paternal grandparents Carmelo & Isabel Mendez.

The family will receive friends Sunday 4-8 PM at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. Additional viewing will be held on Monday from 9:00 am until the time of the mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Ave, Lorain. The Rev. William Thaden, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
