James W. Majjasie, 81, U.S. Marine Corps Veteran
James W. Bill Majjasie, 81, of Elyria, died Wednesday October 21, 2015 at Mercy New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain.He was born March 1, 1934 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain/Elyria resident.
Bill graduated from Lorain High School in 1952. He served with the US Marine Corps during the Korean War as a Staff Sergeant and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
He worked at BF Goodrich in Avon Lake as a Chemical Operator for 34 years before retiring. He was a past member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Sheffield Lake.
He is survived by his wife Jean Stephanchick, daughters Susan Baker (Calvin) of Sheffield Village and Debra Mason (Michael) of Elyria, 5 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and brother Robert Majjasie of Lorain. He was preceded in death by his parents Stephen & Anna Majjasie (nee Carey) and brother Gerald Majjasie.
A private family military graveside funeral service was conducted by the Lofton Henderson Marine Corps League Detachment #494 of Lorain and the Disabled American Veterans Chapter #20 of Lorain. Rev. Mark Hurlbut, chaplain of Detachment #494, officiated. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
Arrangements were under the direction of Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain.
