Martha J. Jones, 87, Volunteered Her Time with Children at Murray Ridge School
Martha J. Jones (nee Cook), 87, of Lorain, died Wednesday October 14, 2015 at her home while under the care of Mercy New Life Hospice.
She was born June 8, 1928 in Elyria and had resided in Lorain since 1949.
Martha volunteered her time with the mentally challenged at Murray Ridge School where she would take them bowling at Brunswick Zone in North Ridgeville, keep score for them and make center pieces for their bowling banquet. She enjoyed crafts.
She is survived by her sons Lawrence Jones and Terrance Jones, both of Lorain, daughter Nancy McCallie (Ronald) of Forest, Louisiana, 6 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and sister Juanita Kuhns of Ocala, Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband Marion V. Jones, son Daniel R. Jones, parents Raymond and Isy Cook (nee Trott), brothers Donald and Richard Cook and sister Dorothy Roig.
The family will receive friends Friday 6-8 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain where funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 am. The Rev. James Smucker, chaplain with Mercy New Life Hospice, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township.
