Joan L. Rashken, 79, Accomplished Pianist
Joan L. Rashken (nee Lasky), 79, of Vermilion, passed away Monday September 21, 2015 at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain after a brief illness.Joan was born in Lorain, Ohio on February 6, 1936. She graduated from Lorain High School with the class of 1954-A.
She moved to California where she met her husband of 45 years, Jerry. Upon retirement, they returned to the area, residing in Vermilion, Ohio.
Joan was very passionate about the arts, as she was an accomplished pianist, and artist in the medium of oil painting. She was a huge fan of Johnny Mathis having first heard him sing before he became famous and followed his whole career. A member of the Vermilion Animal Protective League, she loved animals and provided strong support for them whenever possible.
She was preceded in death by her mother Lottie (nee Chopinsky), father Frank Lasky and her brother Donald Lasky. Joan is survived by her husband of 45 years Jerry Rashken.
The family will receive friends Friday, September 25, 2015 from 10:00 am until the time of funeral services at 1:00 pm at Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain, Ohio. Burial will follow in Brownhelm Cemetery in Vermilion.
