George A. Dovala, 85, U.S. Army Veteran

He was born in Lorain on December 18, 1929 and was a graduate of Lorain High School.
Following graduation, George was inducted into the United States Army where he fulfilled duty assignments as a Sergeant attached to the Military Intelligence Unit based in Cleveland during the Korean War.
A member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, George had been employed as a supervisor in the Roll Shop at U.S. Steels Corporation’s Lorain-Cuyahoga Works. He retired in 1983 following thirty-two years of service with the steel producer.
He was a member of the U.S. Steel Management Club as well as Amvets Post # 22 of Vermilion and was also a member of the Free and Accepted Masons.
Survivors include his wife of thirty-two years Mary (nee Rath), his daughter Nancy Gordon, and his grandson Christopher Gordon both residing in Amherst. Additional survivors include his brother Don Dovala of Amherst, and sister Marilyn Borthwick of Elyria.
George was preceded in death by his parents George and Susan (nee Suster) Dovala, and by his sister Nancy Pogorelc.
Visitation will be Friday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of funeral services at 3:00 p.m. in Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 4501 Clinton Avenue, Lorain. The Reverend Laurie Miller, pastor of the church will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are encouraged to the church.
