George J. Demchik, 77, Avid Fly Fisher

He was born in Lorain on November 21, 1937 and had been a resident of the city for the majority of his life. George was a 1956 graduate of Lorain High School.
An avid fly fisher, he was a life-long member of the Federation of Fly Fishers, and was a founding member and annual sponsoring member of the Anglers of the Au Sable in Grayling Michigan. He was a past member of the Theodore Gordon Fly Fishers, and Trout Unlimited.
George was a retiree of the Ford Motor Company with thirty-one years of service; he worked at the Lorain Assembly Plant as well as the Ohio Truck Plant in the Employee Relations Department and was a member of the initial team to set up the facility and work force at the Ohio Truck Plant in 1973. With Ford, he served on the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army and was also a member of the Ohio Self-Insurer’s Association.
Mr. Demchik was a veteran of the United States Navy serving from 1955 to 1959; he fulfilled duty assignments as a Quartermaster Third Class aboard the U.S.S. Myles C. Fox, DDR out of Newport, Rhode Island. During the last two years of his service, his ship made two Mediterranean Sea Cruises and a Northern Europe NATO cruise crossing the Arctic Circle to earn the Blue Nose Certificate.
He was a parishioner of St. Mary Catholic Church in Lorain, and had also been a member of the former Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
Following his retirement, George and his wife became captivated by world travel and took trips to a multitude of destinations including Europe, the far east, Russia, and Israel. They also enjoyed a number of oceanic cruises.
George is survived by his beloved wife of fifty-five years Joan (nee Zemanek), and by daughters Lisa Lorenz (Daniel) of Olmsted Falls and Natalie Demchik of Avon. He also leaves granddaughters Alexandra Bazilevich (Jason) of Akron, and Jordan Lorenz of Olmsted Falls. He loved them all dearly.
George was preceded in death by his father George J. Demchik in 1966 and by his mother Margaret Demchik (nee Urban) in 1951.
Friends may call Monday from 3:00 until 9:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Tuesday beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary Catholic Church (corner of West 8th and Reid Avenue). The Reverend Daniel O. Divis, pastor of the parish will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by members of the Lorain Honor Guard.
