Photo of Harriet E. “Betty” Gormley Harriet E. “Betty” Gormley (nee Wright), 97, of Lorain, died Tuesday August 11, 2015 at Anchor Lodge Nursing Home in Lorain.

She was born November 7, 1917 in Lorain and had lived in Lorain most of her life.

Harriet graduated with the Lorain High School Class of 1936A. During World War II, she worked at Pacific Naval Air Base at Port Hueneme, California and at the Southern Pacific Railroad in San Francisco. When she moved home to Lorain, she worked as a salesperson for Kline’s Department Store, Muirs Drug Store and JC Penney.

She was a member of the Lorain Senior Center, Lighthouse Chapter AARP and a volunteer for RSVP. She was active in boy scouts and served as a Den Mother. She attended Christian Temple Disciples of Christ Church and First Congregational Church, both of Lorain. Harriet enjoyed travel, handcrafts, volunteering and baking.

She is survived by her son Daniel Gormley of Lorain, 6 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Gormley, son Leon D. Gormley, parents Walter & Mary Wright (nee Kendig), granddaughter Cindy Loomis and brothers Walter Wright Jr and Allison Wright.

The family will receive friends Thursday 3-6 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:00 am in the funeral chapel with the Rev. Philip Kunz, pastor of St. John United Church of Christ in Lorain, officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Lorain.
