Rosemary F. Balchak, 86, was an active member of the Lorain community
She was born in 1928 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.
Rosemary attended Bowling Green State University before beginning her teaching career which lasted nearly 60 years. As an active member of her local community, Rosemary served among the leadership of the Lorain Historical Society, American Association of University Women, Daughters of the American Revolution where she served as a past regent and the Black River Genealogy Society, She was also a member of Friends of the Metro Parks, St. Anthony Parish where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a member and past president of the Marian Guild , Lorain PTA and performed volunteer work for Lorain County Community College and the Lorain Palace Theater. She enjoyed crafts, travel, music and the theater.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years Edward P. Balchak, sons John Balchak of Sacramento, CA, James Balchak of Lorain and Robert Balchak (Wendy) of Vermilion and grandson Emery Balchak of Vermilion. She was preceded in death by her parents Albert & Faye Greulich (nee Dixon), brother Albert Greulich III and sister Carolyn Pratt.
The family will receive friends Friday 3-5, 7-9 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. Additional viewing time will be held Saturday from 10:30 am until the time of the mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1305 E. Erie Ave, Lorain. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Lorain.
