James H. Holomuzki, 88, U.S. Army Veteran
James H. Holomuzki, 88, of Lorain, died Sunday August 2, 2015 at Mercy New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain after a brief illness.He was born January 22, 1927 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.
Mr. Holomuzki served with the US Army as a Technician 5th Grade during World War II in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He was awarded the Army Occupation Medal and World War II Victory Medal.
In 1955, he joined the Lorain Police Department and attended Law Enforcement Officers Training School in Elyria under Sheriff Carl Finnegan with co-operation of FBI General Law Enforcement training. In 1961, he attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois to study the Fundamentals of Police Traffic Service. In 1971, he attended Military Police School in Fort Gordon, Georgia and took a civil disturbance orientation course. Over his police career, he attended numerous seminars in an effort to keep up with the constantly changing interpretations of the law. He retired from the Lorain Police Department with the rank of Captain in 1983 after 29 years of service.
Mr. Holomuzki was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elyria Township where he served Sunday mass and funeral masses and was a member of the Holy Name Society. In 2001, he was named St. Vincent de Paul Holy Name Man-of-the-Year. He was also a member of the Lorain County Police Chief’s Association and the Fraternal Order of Police.
He enjoyed oil painting, woodworking and photography.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years Theresa E. Holomuzki (nee Pallai), children Kathleen Holomuzki of Brunswick Hills, Patricia Rehoreg (Kenneth) of Lorain and James A. Holomuzki of Brunswick Hills, granddaughters Kaleigh Holomuzki and Danielle Keiper, sister Margaret Dallos of Lorain and daughter-in-law Carrie Leciejewski of Valley City. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph & Matilda Holomuzki (nee Nagy) and brothers Steve, Joseph & Robert Holomuzki.
The family will receive friends Wednesday 4-8 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. The mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 10:00 am at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 41295 N. Ridge Rd, Elyria. (Please meet at the church). The Rev. Donald Dunson, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain with military honors conducted by the Disabled American Veterans Post #20 of Lorain.
