Irene M. Brumelis, 102, Enjoyed oil painting and crocheting

Photo of Irene M. Brumelis Irene M. Brumelis, (nee Strauts/Stearns), age 102, of Lorain, passed away on the evening of Thursday July 23, 2015 while a resident of the Elmcroft of Lorain. She was born in Moscow, Russia on March 1, 1913 and was raised in Latvia. She immigrated to the United States in 1950 from Germany.

Irene was employed as a seamstress for the Weitz Clothing Company in Lorain for many years; she later served as the clothing department manager at Ontario’s.

Mrs. Brumelis enjoyed oil painting and crocheting in her free time. She also liked dogs and displayed a particular fondness for French Poodles and Yorkshire Terriers.

She is survived by her son Andris Brumelis (Ellen) of Lorain, by granddaughters Debra Skolnicki (Steve) or Vermilion and Tricia Brumelis of Lorain, along with great grandchildren Matthew and Brittany Skolnicki. Irene was preceded in death by her husband Rudolfs Brumelis in 1946, by her parents Theodore and Vera (nee Orenius) Strauts (Stearns) and by her brother Richard Stearns.

Visitation will be Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Reverend Philip E. Kunz, pastor of St. John’s United Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park.
