Helen J. Karney, 92, Enjoyed cooking and baking.

Shortly after meeting the love of her life, David Karney, Sr., she and Dave were married on October 24, 1942, at St. Ladislaus Church in Lorain, Ohio. Following their marriage, they resided in Lorain the rest of their lives. Helen and her husband were devoted to each other in marriage for 66 years. They raised two children, and eventually designed and built their own home. Helen took great pride in her home, living there until she became ill.
Most of Helen's life was dedicated to lovingly caring for her family and took great joy in her great grandchildren.
She enjoyed cooking and baking for them, and was an excellent Hungarian cook. She worked briefly at Western Automatic in Elyria, and at St. Joseph's Hospital in Lorain in Central Supply.
Helen was devoutly religious in her Catholic faith. She and her husband were parishioners at St. Ladislaus Church until it was closed. Helen then joined Nativity of the BVM Church in Lorain. Throughout the years she volunteered many hours at St. Ladislaus Church helping to prepare such foods as stuffed cabbage and Hungarian sausages.
Helen also gave of her time by assisting with cleaning, decorating, or whatever else needed to be done at the church. While a member of St. Ladislaus, she belonged to St. Anne's Auxiliary.
Helen and her husband enjoyed square dancing in their younger years. Their group would occasionally share their talents performing for those in nursing homes. They also liked to travel, and were fortunate to visit many places, including Austria, Germany, Jerusalem, Turkey, Hawaii, and her parents' native country, Hungary.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Jolyn Lines (Thomas) of Amherst, her son David Karney ( Linda) of Amherst, grandchildren Jamie Back and Ali Wirth, both of Cincinnati, Jason Karney of Westlake, and Jennifer Karney of Amherst. She is also survived by her sister, Margaret Catanzarite (Julius) of Elyria, five great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband David in January, 2009, a stillborn daughter in 1943, parents George and Anna (née Perestegi) Matyas, brothers Raymond Matyas (1975), and George Matyas (2015).
