Mary M. Whittaker, 87, Lorain citizen will be dearly missed

She was born December 19, 1927 in Lemont Furnace, Pennsylvania and had resided in the Lorain area most of her life.
Mary graduated from Clearview High School and the St. Joseph School of Nursing where she became a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked at Lorain Community Hospital in the Intensive Care Unit for many years until her retirement.
Mary was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Lorain where she volunteered in the church kitchen and the pierogi crew. She was a member of the Lorain Senior Center and enjoyed quilting.
She is survived by her children Linda L. Hambly, Clifton J. Whittaker (Frankie), Cindy Szymanowski (Dana), Joyce Whittaker, Bradley J. Whittaker and Terrance A. Whittaker (Joy), numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren and brother John Zehel (Barb). She was preceded in death by her husband Clifton H. Whittaker in 1984, parents John and Anna Zehel (nee Kregosky), sisters Josephine Doman, Lydia Puzjak, Victoria Deba, Helen Zawasky and Anne Tomasic and brother William Zehel.
The family will receive friends Wednesday 5-8 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. The mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 10:00 am at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1305 E. Erie Ave, Lorain. (Please meet at the church) The Rev. Donald Dunson, pastor of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elyria Twp., will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
