Joseph E. Hilson, 81, Korean War Veteran
Joseph E. Hilson, age 81, of North Ridgeville passed away Monday June 8, 2015 at Ames Family Hospice in Westlake following a long illness.
Born in Pittsburgh, PA he had resided in North Ridgeville since 1969.
Mr. Hilson served in the US Army during the Korean War.
He worked as a Sales Person for Sears in Elyria and later in North Olmsted for 45 years until retiring earlier this year.
An Avid golfer and bowler, he bowled with the Sears Bowling League. He also enjoyed being active with the Sears Retiree Group Number 1310.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Mary, daughters, Julie (Steven) Sampsell of Elyria and Vicki (David) Gullett of North Ridgeville, sons, Erik (Elaine) of North Ridgeville and Chuck Hilson of Newton, N.C. Ten grandchildren and two sisters, Peggy (John) Wagner of Baden, PA and Eileen Howard of Dallas, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Margaret Hilson, four brothers, and two sisters.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5-8 PM at Bogner Family Funeral Home 36625 Center Ridge Road North Ridgeville. A prayer service will be held 11 AM Thursday at the funeral home followed by 11:30 AM Mass at St. Peter Church, North Ridgeville. Rev. Bob Franco, Pastor will be the celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery. The VFW Post 9871 will conduct full military honors at the cemetery.
