Juan Varela, 91, Member of Sacred Chapel Church

Photo of Juan Varela Juan Varela, 91, of Lorain, passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2015 in Mercy Regional Medical Center of Lorain.

He was born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico in September 18th, 1923. He came to Lorain in 1950. He worked for Green Circle Growers for 20 years. He was a member of Sacred Chapel, Lorain. A member of the Cursillo Movement, St. Vincent DePaul and was a Eucharistic Minister. He liked to watch boxing.

He will be missed by his wife of 6 years Sara Varela (née Rivera); daughters Nereida Varela-De Jesus, Dolores Varela-Casillas, Lucy Clark, Sonia Colon, Luz M. Colon, and Sandra Santiago; sons Jimmy Cruz, Ray Cruz, Jose Colon, Efrain Colon and Edwin Colon and many grandchildren.

He was preceded by his parents Dolores and Angela Varela (née Maldonado); his son, Raul Varela and his daughter Gloria Marrero.

He will be missed by all family members and friends.

His family will receive friends Thursday from 4 to 8 PM in Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain. Friends may also call Friday from 8:30 AM until Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Father William A. Thaden, pastor officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
