Nancy J. Pogacnik, 83, Enjoyed gardening

Nancy J. Pogacnik, (nee Kacsandy), age 83, of Lorain, passed away on Friday April 17, 2015 while a resident of the Anchor Lodge Nursing Home. Born in Lorain on February 28, 1931, Nancy was 1949 a graduate of St. Mary High School.

Orphaned during her early childhood, she was lovingly raised by Clarence and Ruby Ryan

In the early stages of her adult life Nancy was employed by the United States Steel Corporation and, later, by the Lorain Public School System.

She was a parishioner of the Catholic Church of St. Peter. In her free time she enjoyed gardening. She also liked growing a variety of flowers, especially those that encouraged visits from birds.

She is survived by her sons John Pogacnik of Perry, Ohio and Tom Pogacnik (Peggy) of Folsom, California along with her grandson Shaun. Additional survivors include her brother Thomas Kacsandy of Sun City, California, and sisters Charlotte Alleseo of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Grace Steenhuizen residing in southern California.

Nancy was preceded in death by her husband Vincent in 2003, by her parents Steven A. and Gizella (nee Ronenyak) Kacsandy, by her brother Charles Ryan, and by her sister Shirley Kowalski..

Visitation will be conducted Tuesday April 21st in the Catholic Church of St. Peter, (3501 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain) from 10:30 a.m. until the time of her Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. The Reverend Craig Hovanec, pastor of the parish will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.

The family encourages memorial contributions to the Cleveland Museum of Natural History’s Natural Areas Stewardship Endowment - 1 Wade Oval, Cleveland, OH 44106.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel.
