John L. McCoy, 87, Loved bluegrass music, flea markets, playing dominos and cards
John L. McCoy, 87, of Lorain passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, March 27, 2015 from natural causes.Mr. McCoy was born in Duck, WV on August 15, 1927, the son of the late Otis and Bessie (nee Case) McCoy.
He was a decorated US Army veteran with several commendations and the Purple Heart. He served during the Korean War.
Mr. McCoy was employed for more than 37 years at US Steel in Lorain retiring as a plugger in 1988.
He loved bluegrass music, flea markets, playing dominos and cards especially SetBack, being outdoors, reading and watching CNN on TV.
Mr. McCoy is survived by a son John "JD" (Mary) McCoy of Sylvania, daughters Sherry A. (Terry) King of Lorain, Shelley L. (Craig) Shaver of New London, Susan M. (Thomas) Schofield of Elyria, grandchildren, Jamie Mulcahy, Kristy Jimenez, Kayla McCoy, Lenna McCoy, Patrick McCoy, Erica McCoy, Garret McCoy, Jenna McCoy, Jared McCoy, Savannah Shaver, Jacob Shaver, a great grandson EJ Jimenez, a sister Margaret Shilling of Meadeville, PA, brothers Mark McCoy of Newark and Otis (Catherine) McCoy of Lorain.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Kathleen (nee Davis) McCoy in 2003, brothers Richard, Robert and sisters Frances and Freida.
Friends may call on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 from 11:00 am until funeral services at 1:00 p.m. in the Schwartz, Spence,Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain, 44052. The Rev. Lisa Morrison, associate pastor of the Lorain Light House United Methodist Church will officiate.
Burial will be in the Ridge Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, Amherst Twp., with full military honors provided by the Lorain Honor Guard.
The family suggest memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice in John's memory.
