Mildred L. Hellinger, 90, Was a homemaker and enjoyed baking, especially her 'Millie

Photo of Mildred L. Hellinger Mildred L. "Millie" Hellinger, 90, (nee Long) of Lorain passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at the Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain following a brief illness.

Mildred was born in Lorain on May 23, 1924, daughter of the late Fred D. and Laura E. (Scott) Long. She was a graduate of Lorain High School Class of 1942. She was a homemaker and enjoyed baking, especially her 'Millie" fudge and peanut butter buckeyes.

Mildred was a long time member of Christian Temple Disciples of Christ Church in Lorain, where she was described as a cornerstone of the church and had served as a deaconess, teacher, group leader, and kindergarten supervisor. She also served on the outreach committee and telephoned for the prayer chain.

Mildred had worked at the former Esco Appliance Store and the Video Cinema. She enjoyed picnics with friends and family at the lake and was also was an avid swimmer, still swimming as recently as January. She also loved to travel, especially to visit friends and family in the West.

She is survived by a daughter Connie K. Durgan Hellinger of Lorain, sons Donn A. (Linda) Hellinger of New Carlisle, OH, Terry S. (Carol) Hellinger, of Larkspur, CO, grandchildren Rochelle Kolhouse, Jennifer Tarver, great grandchildren, Jordan and Jayden Kolhouse and Garrett and Gunner Tarver, and a brother James M. (Mary) Long of Avon Lake.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Charles A. Hellinger in 2006, brother Mack Long and son-in-law Charles Durgan.

Friends may call at the Christian Temple Disciples of Christ Church, 940 Fifth Street in Lorain from 10:30 a.m. until the Memorial Service at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 25, 2015. The Rev. Dr. Bradley J. Donahue, pastor, will officiate.

Burial will be private in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
