Robert W. Belu, 66, Enjoyed golfing and played in several leagues

Photo of Robert W. Belu Robert W. Belu, 66, of Lorain, died Friday February 20, 2015 at Mercy New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain after a brief illness.

He was born February 23, 1948 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.

Robert graduated from Lorain High School in 1966 and then served with the US Army during the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1969. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Robert worked for Lorain City Schools in the maintenance department retiring in 2010.

He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elyria Township, a life member of AMVETS Post #47 in Lorain and a member of the American Slovak Club in Lorain. He enjoyed golfing and played in several leagues.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years Susan P. Belu (nee Baska), daughter Elizabeth Sartor (Eric) of Denver, Colorado, brothers George Belu (Janet) of Columbus, Daniel Belu (Sue) of Greensboro, North Carolina and James Belu (Joan) of Lorain. He was preceded in death by his son George Anthony Belu in 2011 and parents George and Angeline Belu (nee Simonic).

Private family funeral services were held Wednesday February 25th at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. The Rev. Donald Dunson, pastor of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, officiated. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where the Disabled American Veterans Post #20 of Lorain conducted military honors.
