Hyman Margolis, 90, U.S. Army Veteran

Photo of Hyman Margolis Hyman Margolis died peacefully on February 12, 2015 in Fort Myers, FL at the age of 90.

He is survived by four children, Philip (Adina) of Eagan, MN, Janet (David) Sunderman of Lewis Center, OH, Paul of San Francisco, CA and Jean Doriot of Cape Coral, FL, as well as 5 grandchildren, Ryan (Amy), Erin (Jason) Cox, Tiffany Rojas, Brandyn Rojas and Sarah Margolis. His 10 great- grandchildren are Haley, Hannah, Alexander, Abbey and Aiden Sunderman, William and Lincoln Cox, Khloe Rojas, Nicole Rojas and Micah Margolis. He is also survived by his brother, Nathan (Barbara) of Boynton Beach, FL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Ida (nee Margolin) Margolis, brothers Joseph, Harold, Benjamin, and sister, Helen Weiss.

Born on May 18, 1924 in Lorain, Ohio, he graduated from Lorain High School in 1942. Inducted in the US Army on March 31, 1943 as a member of the 276th Engineering Battalion, he arrived in Europe at Omaha Beach at D-Day plus five and fought his way to Germany where he served until the war ended. In June, 1946, he married Bella (Bordo) Cook and they had four children.

He worked in his parents' furniture store and later owned Mars Furniture and then Ohio Furniture Fair and Ohio Carpet Fair in downtown Lorain. He was a member of Agudath B'nai Israel Synagogue and past President of B'nai B'rith. He moved to Florida in 1972 where he owned and managed several properties.

His children and grandchildren were his greatest joy and all of them miss him very much.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 15th at 1:00 p.m. in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain with Mr. Howard Goldberg, officiating.

Burial will be in the Salem Cemetery, Sheffield Township with full military honors provided by the D.A.V. Louis Proy Post # 20.
