Delvyn A. Nocjar, 77, Member of the Fraternal Order of Slovak Catholic Sokols

Photo of Delvyn A. Nocjar Delvyn A. Nocjar, 77, of Amherst, died suddenly on Thursday February 12, 2015 in the intensive care unit at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain.

Delvyn was born July 13, 1937 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Amherst/Lorain resident.

He graduated from Lorain High School in 1956. Delvyn worked at Mascon Toy Company in Lorain as a steel stamper and at TRW/Nelson Stud as a watchman.
Delvyn was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lorain where he served as an usher and served mass. He served on church council for many years and was a past vice president; a member and group leader of the Holy Trinity Rosary Society and a member of Holy Trinity Holy Name Society where he received the Man-of-the-Year Award. Delvyn was a member of St. Anne Lodge Branch #114 of the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Union, a member of the Fraternal Order of Slovak Catholic Sokols where he served as auditor for many years and the American Slovak Club where he was active with club functions.

Delvyn enjoyed keeping score for youth baseball and bowled in several leagues.

He is survived by his sister Glenice Zelina, nephew Kevin Zelina, great nieces Katherine & Kylie Zelina and great nephew Matthew Zelina. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph & Ethel Nocjar (nee Porostovsky) and nephew Terry Zelina.

The family will receive friends Sunday 4-8 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain where the St. Anne Lodge Branch #114 and the Holy Trinity Holy Name Society will recite the rosary Sunday at 4:00 pm. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:30 am in the funeral chapel. The Rev. Donald Dunson, pastor of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elyria Township, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
