Alfred F. Urbanski, 91, U.S. Navy Veteran

He was born February 10, 1924 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.
Alfred graduated from Lorain High School and then served with the US Navy during World War II. He saw action in Guam and Germany.
Alfred worked at Thew Shovel in Lorain as a Turret Lathe Operator for over 30 years before retiring.
He was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Lorain and the United Polish Club in Lorain. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, metal working, photography, bird watching and polka music.
He is survived by nieces and nephews Diane (Orest) Lesiuk of Lorain, Patti (Frank) Starman of Lorain, Irene (Ron) Potoski of Cleveland, Bob (Louann) Phelan of Amherst, Rick Sidorowicz of Pinellas Park, FL and Ralph Sidorowicz of Thermal, CA and many great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Sophie Urbanski (nee Jaworski), sisters Genevieve Sidorowicz and Cecilia Phelan and nephew Frank Sidorowicz.
The family will receive friends Sunday 3-6 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. Funeral services will be held Monday at 9:30 am in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 1454 Lexington Ave, Lorain. The Rev. Robert J. Glepko, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where VFW Post #451 and American Legion Post #30 of Lorain will conduct military honors.
